In this overview, we highlight the main roadworks that could affect freight transport during the final quarter of 2026. Schedules may change, so always check the latest information from the relevant road authority shortly before departure.<\/p>\n October in particular will be a busy month on Dutch roads. Rijkswaterstaat lists works on the A2, A15, A16, A27, A59 and N3, among others, in its official overview of projects expected to cause significant disruption in autumn 2026. Before departure, it is therefore advisable to check the latest traffic information and roadworks overview from Rijkswaterstaat<\/a>.<\/p>\n One of the most important projects for international freight traffic will take place on the A2 in Limburg. From Thursday 8 October at 21:00 until Monday 12 October at 05:00, Rijkswaterstaat will carry out work between the Het Vonderen and Kerensheide interchanges.<\/p>\n From Thursday evening, the A2 will initially be partially closed in the southbound direction. From Friday 9 October at 21:00 until Monday 12 October at 05:00, the A2 between Het Vonderen and Kerensheide will then be completely closed in both directions.<\/strong> Rijkswaterstaat warns that delays could exceed 60 minutes<\/strong>. The closure is particularly relevant to international transport because several diversion routes run through Belgium and Germany. Traffic travelling from Rotterdam towards Kerensheide, for example, will be diverted via Antwerp, while traffic from the Nijmegen, Venlo and Roermond areas can also use a route through Germany.<\/p>\n For freight transport between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, it is therefore advisable to factor this extended weekend closure into transport planning well in advance.<\/p>\n View the exact closures and international diversion routes on the Rijkswaterstaat page about the A2 Het Vonderen\u2013Kerensheide<\/a>.<\/p>\n The A59 also requires considerable attention. From Friday evening 16 October until Monday morning 26 October, sections of the A59 will be closed in both directions for nine days. The closure affects traffic between Zeeland\/Rotterdam, North Brabant and the central and eastern Netherlands, among other routes. Several connections within the Hooipolder interchange will also be unavailable.<\/p>\n Rijkswaterstaat expects 30 to 60 minutes of additional journey time<\/strong>. For freight traffic, it is also important to note that the Merwedebrug cannot be used as an alternative by trucks. The Papendrechtsebrug on the N3 has been completely closed since 17 July 2026 and will remain closed throughout the entire fourth quarter<\/strong>. According to the current schedule, the bridge will not reopen until 21 April 2027. The long-term closure has significant consequences for accessibility in the Drechtsteden area. Traffic is being diverted via the A15 and A16, among other routes. Rijkswaterstaat expects additional journey times on these routes and the local road network to reach 30 to 60 minutes<\/strong> during peak periods.<\/p>\n This means the closure is also relevant to transport that would not normally use the N3 itself. Additional traffic on the A15 and A16, for example, may affect freight flows towards Rotterdam, Gorinchem and western North Brabant.<\/p>\n More information is available on the Rijkswaterstaat project page about the renovation of the Papendrechtsebrug<\/a>.<\/p>\n From Friday 2 October at 20:00 until Monday 5 October at 05:00, the A16 towards Rotterdam will be closed between the Ridderkerk and Terbregseplein interchanges. Rijkswaterstaat expects 30 to 60 minutes of additional journey time<\/strong>.Traffic will be diverted via the A15, A4 and A20, among other routes. For transport heading towards Rotterdam and the port area, the closure may therefore increase congestion not only on the A16 itself but also on surrounding corridors.<\/p>\n This is particularly relevant because the long-term closure of the Papendrechtsebrug is also shifting traffic towards the A15 and A16.<\/p>\n View the details and diversion routes on the Rijkswaterstaat page about the A16 Ridderkerk\u2013Rotterdam<\/a>.<\/p>\n From 16 to 26 October, Rijkswaterstaat also expects significant disruption on the A15 between Benelux and Vaanplein. The A15 is an important freight corridor around Rotterdam and provides a direct connection to the Port of Rotterdam area.<\/p>\n The combination with other roadworks and diversions in South Holland deserves particular attention. When planning port-related transport, it is therefore important to consider not only works on the intended route, but also the expected traffic pressure on alternative corridors.<\/strong><\/p>\n Current information about these and other projects is available in the Rijkswaterstaat autumn roadworks overview<\/a>.<\/p>\n The A1 also requires attention. Major maintenance is being carried out between Barneveld and Apeldoorn until early December. During parts of the works, traffic will use narrowed lanes and a speed limit of 70 km\/h will apply. Rijkswaterstaat warns of up to 30 minutes of additional journey time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Several overnight closures are also scheduled for late November and early December. This section is important for international traffic because the A1 forms part of a major route from the Netherlands towards Germany and onwards to Poland.<\/p>\n The latest schedule and closures can be found on the project page for major maintenance on the A1 between Barneveld and Apeldoorn<\/a>.<\/p>\n Later in the quarter, attention shifts to the A12 near Utrecht. According to the current schedule, the Galecopperbrug towards Arnhem will be completely closed from Friday evening 20 November until Tuesday morning 24 November. A second extended closure is scheduled from Friday evening 4 December until Tuesday morning 8 December.<\/p>\n The main carriageway towards Arnhem will be closed between the Oudenrijn and Lunetten interchanges. Rijkswaterstaat warns of more than 60 minutes of additional journey time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This is particularly relevant for traffic travelling from the Randstad towards the central and eastern Netherlands and for transport continuing onwards to Germany.<\/p>\n Check the latest schedule on the Rijkswaterstaat page about maintenance of the Galecopperbrug<\/a>.<\/p>\n In addition to the projects above, several other roadworks may be relevant depending on the route. Closures are scheduled on the A27 between Houten and Hooipolder from 22 to 26 October and from 30 October to 2 November<\/strong>. Roadworks are also taking place on the A2 between Everdingen and Deil until 16 October.<\/p>\n For traffic towards Belgium, closures will also take place in October and November in the Koning Willem-Alexandertunnel on the A2\/N2 near Maastricht.<\/p>\n Because several projects overlap in both timing and location, it is advisable to check the latest Rijkswaterstaat information when planning transport through the Netherlands.<\/p>\n Germany is the main transit country for road transport between the Netherlands and Poland. Roadworks on the A2 therefore deserve particular attention. Concrete full closures are also planned on the A4 in October.<\/p>\n From 5 October, work will take place on the A2 between Zweidorfer Holz and Braunschweig-Watenb\u00fcttel. Approximately five kilometres of road surface will be renewed in both directions. The work is divided into several construction phases and is currently scheduled to continue until the end of November. The A2 is an important east-west connection linking the Netherlands with Hanover, Braunschweig, Magdeburg and Berlin, and therefore plays an important role in many transport movements towards Poland.<\/p>\n A full closure is not necessary for roadworks to have a significant impact on planning. Long-term reductions in available capacity on a busy corridor can cause fluctuating delays every day.<\/strong> Sufficient margins in transport planning are therefore important.<\/p>\n The German road authority publishes the latest traffic situation and construction phases on its page about the A2 roadworks near Braunschweig<\/a>.<\/p>\n On the A4 between Eschweiler-Ost and Weisweiler, traffic will also need to take closures into account in October. During the nights of 12\u201313 October and 27\u201328 October, the A4 between these junctions will be completely closed in both directions<\/strong>, each time from 21:00 until 05:00.<\/p>\n The closures are required for work on high-voltage power lines. Additional restrictions will also apply around the Eschweiler-Ost junction during this period.<\/p>\n For overnight transport using the A4 towards or from the Netherlands and Belgium, this may require a direct adjustment to the route or departure time.<\/p>\n Check the latest information from Autobahn GmbH about the A4 between Eschweiler-Ost and Weisweiler<\/a>.<\/p>\n Disruption is not limited to the route towards Poland. Within Poland itself<\/strong>, roadworks will also be relevant to transport planning during the fourth quarter. In this overview, we focus on the larger restrictions on the A1. For smaller and short-term works, the latest information from the Polish road authority GDDKiA is a more useful source.<\/p>\n Roadworks are taking place on approximately 9.8 kilometres of the A1 between Kopytkowo and Warlubie. The carriageway towards \u0141\u00f3d\u017a is closed and traffic is being routed over the other carriageway using a 2+1 configuration: two lanes towards Gda\u0144sk and one towards \u0141\u00f3d\u017a.<\/p>\n Restrictions also apply at the Warlubie interchange. According to current information, the works will continue until early November.<\/p>\n The A1 is an important north-south route in Poland. Disruption on this section can therefore affect not only regional traffic but also freight flows to and from northern Poland and the Gda\u0144sk region.<\/p>\n Roadworks are also taking place between Rusocin and Swaro\u017cyn until 10 October. Here too, traffic is being routed over one carriageway using a 2+1 configuration.<\/p>\n Because roadworks and temporary restrictions in Poland change regularly, listing every smaller project would add little long-term value. Before departure, check the current overview of traffic restrictions from GDDKiA<\/a>.<\/p>\n For transport within Poland, it is also advisable not to check only the main route. Roadworks on alternative routes may determine whether a diversion will actually save time.<\/p>\n For freight transport between the Netherlands and Belgium, Antwerp is a particularly important area to monitor. The combination of roadworks on the Antwerp ring road, in the port area and in several tunnels may cause additional local disruption.<\/p>\n Various roadworks will take place on the R1 between Antwerpen-Oost and Antwerpen-Noord during the autumn. According to the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic, disruption will occur in both directions between September and November, including towards the Netherlands.<\/p>\n For international transport, the combination of different roadworks is particularly relevant. The Antwerp ring road carries large volumes of through traffic as well as traffic with destinations in the port. Restrictions at one location can therefore affect surrounding roads.<\/p>\n The Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic maintains an overview of relevant roadworks and restrictions<\/a> for professional road users.<\/p>\n In the Port of Antwerp area, the Zandvlietbrug will be completely closed from 3 to 15 October due to road and railway works on both sides of the bridge.<\/p>\n According to the current schedule, the nearby Berendrechtbrug will also remain unavailable until December. Traffic can be diverted via the Frederik Hendrikbrug, but long waiting times may occur when the bridge opens for shipping<\/strong>.<\/p>\n For transport with a loading or unloading address in the port, this is therefore a specific issue to include in route planning in advance. The latest situation is also available in the roadworks overview from the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic<\/a>.<\/p>\n Several planned tunnel closures around Antwerp are also scheduled for October, November and December. Restrictions are planned during various nights, including on the R2.<\/p>\n For regular freight traffic, this may mean taking a diversion. The impact can be greater for ADR transport<\/strong>, because not every alternative tunnel is accessible to vehicles carrying dangerous goods.
